A plain T-shirt is the piece you wear most, so small differences add up: the fabric, how heavy it is, whether the collar holds, and whether the length suits you. Here is how the plain T-shirts you can buy online in India compare.
Full disclosure: we make Better Basics, so read our own entry with that in mind. Everything about other brands below comes from their own India websites, checked on 19 October 2026. Prices and stock change, so check the brand's site before you buy.
What to look for
- Fabric: 100% cotton breathes and feels natural. A little stretch helps the T-shirt spring back. Polyester blends are cheaper and dry faster but breathe less.
- Weight (GSM): around 150 to 180 GSM is light and easy in the heat; 220 GSM and up is heavyweight. Few brands state it. See what GSM means.
- Fit and length: most brands sell one length per size. If you are shorter or taller than average, that is usually the problem, not the size.
- Build: a collar that springs back and small, even stitches. Our guide to a good basic has the checks.

Which should you choose?
- A soft 100% cotton classic: Uniqlo's Supima tee or Marks & Spencer's Pure Cotton tee.
- The lowest price: Jockey.
- If standard lengths never fit you: our Short and Tall lengths (2 inches either way). More in T-shirts for tall and short men.
- A heavier, more structured tee: see heavyweight T-shirts in India.
Frequently asked questions
Which brand makes the best plain T-shirts in India?
It depends on what you want: Uniqlo and Marks & Spencer for 100% cotton classics, Jockey for value, and Better Basics if you want a choice of three lengths or a 250 GSM heavyweight option. Check fabric, GSM and fit before price.
What should I look for in a plain T-shirt?
The fabric (cotton or a blend), the weight (GSM), a collar that springs back, tight even stitching, and a fit and length that suit your build. Our guide on spotting a good T-shirt covers the checks.
Is 100% cotton better than a cotton blend?
Not always. 100% cotton breathes and feels natural; a little stretch helps a T-shirt recover its shape; modal adds softness. Choose by how you'll wear it.
