Polo T-shirts for men: heavy, regular or textured slub?

Heavy Short Sleeve Polo in Beige, worn by a model

By Shivaan Seth, Founder

A good polo should look put together at 9 am and still feel comfortable at 9 pm. Whether it does comes down to one thing more than any other: the fabric.

Why most polos let you down

A lot of polos on the market are nylon or polyester blends. They're light and cheap to make, but they cling, build static and start to look flimsy after a few washes. Our polos are cotton or cotton-modal, and our Heavy Polo is 100% cotton.

"The heavy polo is a work-to-dinner garment. It's soft, breathable and structured: everything you need for a garment that looks put together. And it's 100% cotton. A lot of the market uses nylon or poly blends that cling, give static and feel light and flimsy. It all comes down to fabric selection." Shivaan Seth, founder

Which polo should you choose?

  • For the office: the Heavy Polo. The 250 GSM cotton keeps its collar and shape all day and doesn't cling.
  • For Indian summers: the everyday 180 GSM Polo or the Textured Slub Polo, the lightest of the range.
  • For a full sleeve polo: the Heavy Long Sleeve Polo for structure, or the Long Sleeve Polo for something lighter.
  • For a sharper, closer fit: the slim fit versions of the Short and Long Sleeve Polo.

Lengths for every height

Most of our men's polos come in Short (2 inches shorter), Regular and Tall (2 inches longer). Only the body length changes, so a polo can sit right whether you tuck it in or wear it out. See every style in Short & Tall Lengths, or read T-shirts for tall and short men in India.

Polos for women

We make the Heavy Short Sleeve Polo in 100% cotton, an everyday Short Sleeve Polo in cotton-modal, and a Textured Slub Polo. See all women's polos and button-downs.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a heavy polo and a regular polo?

Our Heavy Polo is 100% 16-count cotton at 250 GSM: thicker, more structured, and the collar keeps its shape. Our everyday Polo is 180 GSM cotton with a little stretch: lighter and easier in the heat.

Do you make full sleeve polos?

Yes. Our Long Sleeve Polo (180 GSM) and Heavy Long Sleeve Polo (250 GSM, 100% cotton) are both full sleeve.

Are Better Basics polos polyester?

No. Our polos are cotton or cotton-modal. The Heavy Polo is 100% cotton. Many polos on the market are nylon or polyester blends, which can cling, build static and feel thin.

Do polos come in different lengths?

Yes. Most of our men's polos come in Short (2 inches shorter), Regular and Tall (2 inches longer). Only the body length changes.

Can I wear a polo to the office?

Yes. The Heavy Polo is built for exactly that: structured enough for work, comfortable enough to wear through to dinner.
