How to choose and wear a fitted T-shirt

Fitted Tee in Wine, worn by a model

By Shivaan Seth, Founder

A fitted T-shirt should feel like a second skin, not a squeeze. The difference comes down to two things: the fabric it's made from, and how it's cut.

Why most fitted T-shirts feel tight

Most fitted and baby T-shirts on the market are made from polyester or nylon blends. They stretch, but they don't breathe, and they can feel sticky in Indian heat.

"When we looked at fitted and baby tees in the market, almost all of them were polyester or nylon. If something is hugging your body, it has to be really soft and comfortable. So we went with a cotton-modal blend, tried and tested it, and landed on this style with raglan sleeves. It gives you freedom of movement and it's a great layering piece." Shivaan Seth, founder

How a fitted T-shirt should fit

  • Shoulders: the seam should sit on your shoulder, not past it. Raglan sleeves make this easier, because the sleeve runs into the neckline instead of a set-in seam.
  • Chest and waist: close to the body with no pulling across the chest. If you see stretch lines, go up a size.
  • Length: long enough to tuck in, short enough to wear out over high-waist bottoms.
  • Between sizes? Size up for an easy fit, or stay true to size for a close one. Every product page has a size chart, and our Indian fit guide explains how to measure.

How to wear it

  • With high-waist flare pants: tucked in, it makes an easy, balanced outfit. Our High-Waist Flare Pants are a natural pair.
  • Tucked into trousers or a skirt for work.
  • Under a button-down, blazer or cardigan: it's thin and smooth enough to layer without bulk. Try it under our women's button-downs.
  • On its own with jeans for the weekend.

Choosing a colour

Black, Navy and Wine are the most versatile. White is a favourite, and like any light, fitted T-shirt, it can show what's underneath, so pair it with a skin-tone layer. Sky Blue and Olive work well in summer. Want long sleeves? The Slim Fit Long Sleeve Top uses the same fabric.

What customers say

  • "The fit is flattering, and the fabric is soft and breathable, ideal for hot weather. Definitely a great basic to have!"
  • "Soft, comfortable perfect for summer or to layer when it is cold"
  • "Love the fit and feel of the fitted T shirt."
